A Star Behind The Scenes – Javed Khan, Designer @Myntra


Through Myntra’s DIR program, the aim was to bridge the gap between designers and consumers through the medium of business models. The success of any initiative depends upon how many changes it brings about. Myntra’s initiative gave an advantage to a lot of budding designers to expand their horizons. Once such story is of Javed Khan.

Javed Khan, hailing from Shahpura, Madhya Pradesh got enrolled in National Institute of Fashion Technology to give shape to his dreams of becoming a fashion designer. No sooner than he graduated, he began working on his label ‘ex-pression.ist n’, which he now retails in Bangalore.

Javed’s journey has been a hand in hand process of learning and creating. He debuted at the Lakme Fashion week in 2011, in Gen Next Category. His designs are like a complete story in themselves, with sensible and poetic touch to them. He focuses on creating garments with an Indian vintage feel but with modern silhouettes.

When asked where his inspiration came from, he said, “While I draw a lot of inspiration from nature, random conversations with random people also provide me material for my creative process.” He further added, “I am inspired by the clichéd definition of beautiful. I like the moon, its quiet glow; roses, especially the white ones. I am also intrigued by the concept of age and time.”

Khan who has worked with Louis Philippe for seven years got an opportunity to join the coveted Designer in Residence Program (DIR) of Myntra. With its innovations in design and outreach, Myntra is a fast growing platform for designers to showcase their work and learn the business side of the process.

That is what Javed acknowledged, once you develop business acumen, you can value your work more and get the desired results from consumers. When you know your market well, it becomes a breeze to convey your creative idea to the people out there.
