Success beyond their dreams: Here’s how the dynamic husband-wife duo of Mokshi scripted their success with Myntra
Setting up a business from scratch is not everyone’s cup of tea. But Ritesh and his wife, who had no inkling of how a business is run, set out as entrepreneurs and business partners to achieve their dreams. Ritesh Kumar Sharma, an engineer by profession, quit his high paying MNC job and started a women’s ethnic wear brand Mokshi with his wife who showed interest in foraying into entrepreneurship.
“In the 15 years that I was working in a job, I realised that no matter how much hard work I put in, there will always be a cap on how much I can grow. I had this feeling that the growth potential in a business is limitless,” Ritesh said.
Together, the husband-wife duo started Mokshi – the name means energetic and free-spirited – in 2016. They started selling offline at first, but the bigger reach and transparency of online selling soon drew them in. “To be frank, we had no idea about the online marketplace. But the offline space was disorganised, and we were keen to try new things. To our surprise, we saw amazing returns in just a few months of online selling,” he adds.
Building an affordable clothing brand
Mokshi offers kurtas, kurtis, dresses and sarees at affordable prices. Initially, the products were priced between 399 and 499 only, but soon the catalogue was expanded to include premium offerings. “We wanted to build a brand which had something for everyone. We offer good quality products at value prices and will continue to do so,” Ritesh says.
The Myntra Edge
“We started selling on Myntra in November 2020, and in just one year, we have done a business of 17-18 crores. That is something,” Ritesh says. So, what clicked? According to Ritesh, several things worked, for example, data analytics. “The Myntra team helps us make sense of the data we get. Looking at the numbers and patterns, the team helps us identify our goals, understand demands and work on the areas that need improvement,” he elaborates.
Ritesh then moves on to his experience of participating in Myntra’s big-ticket events like the Big Fashion Festival. “I remember when the sale started at midnight, we received around 250 orders within an hour. We normally used to receive these many orders in an entire day. It was unbelievable. For a while, I thought there was some error in the system!” he says.
After partnering with Myntra, Mokshi saw its sales peak! It clocked 100 percent growth in just a year. Besides data, things like good product photography and the trends that Myntra shares with all their partners have also played important roles behind the success of the brand. But Ritesh’ eyes are on his next goal post now. “I want to have an international presence and achieve sales of 100 crores,” he says.
