Myntra delivered a 100% plastic-free BFF, an initiative to continue for all future deliveries!

As one of India’s leading lifestyle, fashion and beauty brands, and as a responsible corporate citizen, we have been empathetic towards the planet and committed to taking actions that help shape a more sustainable world for the generations to come.

If you have noticed a difference in the packaging of your Myntra order recently, there is a good reason behind it. Taking our commitment to sustainability a notch above, we have eliminated 100% single-use plastic in packaging. The measure is in sync with Myntra’s efforts to align its brand partners to adopt green packaging. In our sustainability journey, we have adopted many sustainable business practices and initiatives along the way, and now eliminating 100% plastic from our packaging is another major milestone accomplished.

What this initiative entails

As a part of this initiative, our customers will receive their orders in sustainable packaging across the country moving forward. All bubble wraps, plastic cello tapes, and polycovers have been replaced with sustainable and eco-friendly shredded materials, paper tapes, and paper covers & boxes respectively.

100% Plastic Free

Embarking on this journey by collaborating with our partners

The preparations for this initiative began last year. Multiple in-house teams spent months on suitable material and process exploration and worked with our brand partners and sellers to make sure the alternative packaging was sturdy enough to handle different kinds of products and specific requirements of the supply chain. Not just that, Myntra’s Fulfillment Centers were equipped with all the right technology and infrastructure in place to carry out this initiative. For a seamless execution, our teams undertook numerous educational webinars and training sessions for the vendor partners to help them implement the new paper packaging system across the country. To facilitate faster adoption of these paper bags in the packaging value chain and to ensure that the sellers get them at a regulated price and optimal quality, Myntra equipped its seller portals to enable sellers to place orders directly for the bags.

For Myntra, this is a moment of great pride as this is an industry-first for any fashion and lifestyle e-commerce brand operating at scale in India. The result of the initiative is already speaking for itself – as of September 2021, there has been a diversion of 670 tons of plastic.

“We place a strong emphasis on sustainable and responsible business practices and Myntra has been emphatic in its mission of going plastic-free. Packaging offers a visible and tangible indication of our commitment to creating a sustainable ecosystem and moving towards a 100% elimination of single-use plastic is a major step and a significant milestone in the direction of sustainable practices. As a leading player in the fashion, lifestyle, and beauty space in the country, we have taken the lead in enabling our seller ecosystem to adopt sustainable packaging alternatives along with us, creating positive environmental impact across the entire supply chain. “says Amar Nagaram, CEO, Myntra.
