This former MNC professional, turned into an entrepreneur & carved his success path with Myntra as a brand partner
For Vaibhav Mittal, the beginning of his start-up journey was full of unknowns except for the vision he had. From sourcing material, creating a platform, taking pictures of products, and packing them without a quintessential team, to building a team of 60 people today and a thriving business on Myntra, it’s been quite a ride for him.
That’s not it, today, besides manufacturing for his own brand, Vaibhav and his team also manufacture for Myntra group’s in-house brands Mast & Harbour and Kook & Keech.
How did it all start?
“In 2014, my father retired from a government job. At the time, I was a senior project manager at a leading multinational IT services and consulting company. My father started living with us in Noida. However, he had no friends here and had a lot of time at hand. That’s when we thought as a family to start something to engage him,” says Vaibhav.
Around the same time, I was to move to the USA for an office project. But being the parent of a special child, it was not a viable option. That is when I decided to remain in India and start my own business,” says Vaibhav.
Today, Vaibhav’s Lujo Trends has factories in key hubs like Noida and Agra where they manufacture various kinds of footwear including sports shoes, flip flops, slippers, casual and formal shoes. Besides Guava, Lujo Trends’ footwear brand, Lujo has three other brands for the digital segment, offering sports shoes, casual and formal shoes for men, and women’s footwear.
Journey with Myntra
Initially, Lujo Trends took the traditional route of digital marketing by promoting its products through social media directly. While the social media adverts did bring in sales and revenue, Vaibhav and his team continued to explore other options that would be more sustainable as well as financially viable. With up-and-coming competition and the rising cost of ads, the team turned to Myntra, to leverage the latter’s customer base, tech prowess, and connectivity in every nook and corner of the country.
On this journey, having a dedicated Brand Manager also helped Vaibhav and his team through every step of the way, and the valuable holistic trends that Myntra shares with its brand partners helped the team scale up its catalogue – the brand, which earlier offered 20-25 styles, now offers 400-500 styles.
Vaibhav admits that the initial stage of the pandemic had been difficult on the business but with support from the family, his team, and a partner like Myntra, Lujo Trends brands not just stayed afloat but continued to prosper. When asked about his success mantra, he says consistency is the key. He admits that despite the lows, he never looked back because losses can always be made up for. He ends the conversation by motivating young aspiring entrepreneurs with passion, dedication, and a vision that there is no stopping them!
